An adventure in the cork oak forest for 10 people from the Diasen team, a small delegation that visited the Busachi cork oak forest in the south of Sardinia, an expanse of plants from the first plants (those that will produce the cork) to the oldest ones. A morning departure that together with the bucadori every year from the early hours of dawn until the early hours of the afternoon with art and dexterity free the cork tree from its bark.
“The bucadori are the officiants of the ritual of decortication: figures who possess knowledge without a book, desired but temporary providers of labour, men who know how to balance skill and effort (…) The extraction of the cork is a dance step with the axe, performed in pairs by the bucadori, with the trunk always between them acting as target and shield. The efficiency and precision of the cut, in this succession of movements, become a special synchronism…”
