The historical precursors of the farmhouse can be found in the medieval Umbrian and Roman rustic villa. Starting from 1900 the farms have been progressively abandoned both as a result of the emigration from the countryside that characterized the twentieth century, and because the peasants considered it more comfortable and safe to live in the inhabited centers, rather than in the middle of the countryside. Following urbanization, the structures have sometimes been transformed into parishes, schools, municipal buildings, terraced houses, restaurants and hotels. This is the case of the “Casco dell’Acqua” Country House which is located within a fifteen-hectare estate between the municipalities of Trevi, Montefalco and Foligno.
