A 'special contribution' in the heart of Lisbon.
Situated between Avenida Infante Dom Henrique and Bairro de Alfama, Campo das Cebolas is one of Lisbon’s best-loved historical areas; a place where different eras of Lisbon’s history intersect, where boats used to dock and where typical local markets later came to life.
After years of neglect, thanks to the prestigious work of architect João Luís Carrilho da Graça, this very old part of Lisbon has returned to its former glory, thanks to the construction of an underground car park and the redevelopment of the square.
The underground car park’s acoustic comfort is guaranteed thanks to Diathonite Acoustix sound-absorbing biomalta, applied in all the structure’s ceilings.
The technical pillars of intervention
The cork-based acoustic biomalta Diathonite Acoustix was chosen to carry out the soundproofing work on the over 5000 m2 of ceilings in the underground car park, with a thickness of 3 cm, applied in two layers of 1.5 cm each to allow the installation of the Polites 140 reinforcement mesh at half the total thickness of the acoustic cladding.
In order to combine acoustic requirements with an aesthetic appearance centred on a fine, almost smooth finish, Argatherm Acoustix lime-based acoustic skim coat was used, which, thanks to its microporosity, allows the system to perform acoustically, while maintaining a fine and uniform grain size and, therefore, a smooth and delicate appearance.
